While
hair is surely our crowning glory, there are a host of problems that we face on
an everyday basis that end up damaging our basic hair texture, robbing it of
its shine, strength and natural beauty. Indian girls are especially known for
their gorgeous hair, also for its length, but if your hair isn’t cared for and
looks damaged, chances are, it could lead to quite a lot of bad hair days. While
there are lots of products available in the market today that promise to cure
your hair of all its problems and take care, one of the most natural ways of getting healthy
hair
is through the herbal way.
1.
Castor oil
Castor
oil is known for its growth properties. If you are worried about your hair not
getting back its length, apply castor oil for a healthy hair growth.
2.
Besan and Boiled Rice Water
While
you’re in the kitchen, apply some besan in the hair, preferably by making a
liquidy paste and keep on for some time. Once you’ve let it sit in the hair for
some time, wash it off with water drained from cooked rice.
3.
Lukewarm Oil Massage
You
may be regularly oiling your hair, but are you sure it’s giving you the results
you’re looking for? Remember, each time that you oil massage your hair, heat up
the oil a bit to make it lukewarm. This will enable it to reach the follicle
pores easily, thus working better and giving you healthy and beautiful hair.
4.
Conditioning for Coloured Hair
If
you’ve coloured your hair, there’s a lot of extra care you need to take. Once
the colour has settled in, instead of using shampoo too often, go for herbal
conditioners that will not only make your hair softer and shinier, it will also
help restore the colour longer.
5.
Cinnamon
If
you’re looking for something that will help in hair growth, as well as make
hair grow shiny and soft, you can use cinnamon, a spice that is easily
available in most Indian homes. Ground some cinnamon and make a paste by mixing
warm olive oil and honey and apply the paste on your scalp. Please do not rub
this on your hair. Keep it on for 15-20 minutes then wash off with cold or
lukewarm water.
6.
Mustard Oil
If
you can manage to stand the zing and the smell, applying mustard oil to your
hair is a great way of promoting hair growth and bringing back the dark black
shine to your hair.
7.
Black pepper and curd
If
you’re suffering from hair fall and feel that your
hair lacks the shine and natural healthy look, two very important ingredients
from your kitchen can do the trick. Take 1gm black pepper and 100gm curd and
mix the two. Apply the paste on your scalp and keep on for some time. Wash off
with warm water. The stench can be overpowering, so if you find it really hard
to bear, use a small quantity of mild shampoo.
8.
Shikakai powder
If
you’re suffering from dandruff, mix some shikakai powder with the drained water
from boiled rice. Pour this slowly over your hair, letting it cover the entire
head and massage gently so that it reaches all parts of the scalp. Let it sit
for some time. Wash off with lukewarm or warm water.
9.
Mehendi
If
you’ve spotted that first grey, worry not. Preventing and getting rid of greys
is quite easy if you follow these simple steps. Take some mehendi, an egg,
juice of half a lemon and 1tbsp of instant coffee. Mix together to apply a
paste and apply on hair. Keep it on for 45 minutes before washing off with
warm/lukewarm water.
10.
Beetroot Leaves and henna
While
beetroots have immense health benefits for your overall health, beetroot leaves
too are a great natural source of caring for your hair. Take a few beetroot leaves,
mash them and mix with henna paste that you can make at home by mixing henna
powder with water. Apply this mixture on the head and leave on for some time,
washing off with lukewarm water. This is a great way of preventing hair loss
and also to get rid of dandruff.
